 Digestive System of Human:

The digestive system is a group of organs responsible for the conversion of food into energy and basic nutrients to support the body. The system includes the mouth, esophagus, stomach, small intestine, large intestine, rectum, and anus.

The process of digestion begins in the mouth, where food is mechanically broken down by the teeth and mixed with saliva, which contains enzymes that begin to break down carbohydrates. The chewed and partially digested food, now called a bolus, is then swallowed and travels down the esophagus, a muscular tube, through a process called peristalsis.

Once in the stomach, the bolus is mixed with stomach acid and enzymes, further breaking down proteins. The stomach muscles then compress and knead the mixture, called chyme, which is slowly released into the small intestine.

In the small intestine, bile, which is produced by the liver and stored in the gallbladder, is released to emulsify fats and neutralize stomach acid. Pancreatic enzymes and brush border enzymes further break down the chyme. The resulting nutrients are then absorbed into the bloodstream through the intestinal lining and transported to the liver for processing and distribution throughout the body.

The remaining indigestible material, along with water and electrolytes, passes into the large intestine, where it is further broken down by bacteria and most of the remaining water and electrolytes are absorbed. The material then becomes feces and is eliminated through the rectum and anus.

Overall, the digestive system plays a vital role in providing the body with the necessary nutrients and energy to function properly. It converts food into basic nutrients and energy to support the body. It also eliminates waste products and toxins from the body
